Spay / Neuter

Spay / Neuter Banner Concept

I created a variation of this illustration many years ago and have come back to it many times thinking it was too fun and ridiculous to not. From the beginning it was a commentary on how people treat sex as a joke. I remember being in middle school and people making this obscene hand gesture while the teacher was turned around to try to break the classes focus (not a hard feat, in middle school). However, as people get older they (hopefully) get over this, and sex is something they begin to take more seriously.

This is not the case when it comes to our furry friends.

I've fostered many, many dogs both in Jersey and in Texas. My cat was a shelter rescue. My mom spends her spare time cleaning kennels. I try to do the same. As much as I love these animals, as glad as I am that they've made it to me, they should never have ended up in a shelter at all.

The overpopulation of dogs and cats is not an issue to take lightly. The amount of animals in shelters that have to call a shelter home is absolutely heartbreaking, and the amount that are put down every day simply because of a lack of space for them: devastating. With how many animals out there that need homes, there's no need to breed and no excuse to not spay or neuter.

The illustration of this image is meant to appeal to viralism, as it's awkward and unexpected. This intention is also reflected in the extremely aggressive copy, which is necessary because this is a message that is everywhere, yet people still do not listen.
